Hypnotherapy to help ease menopause symptoms

For many women, their menopause journey is an emotional and physical rollercoaster.

If you are struggling with menopausal symptoms, you are not alone. About 8 out of 10 women experience them. Symptoms can last for years, with many people reporting them as “very difficult.”

Trouble sleeping, brain fog, hot flushes, anxiety and depression due to the menopause are all common. Other symptoms may develop, such as tiredness, irritability, headaches, joint pain and muscle aches, loss of sex drive (libido), and feelings of not being yourself or coping as well as you used to.

Why consider hypnotherapy for help?

Clinical hypnotherapy can support a holistic, natural approach to managing a range of menopausal symptoms, and act as a helpful complement to Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).

A standard solution-focused hypnotherapy session includes hypnosis, mindfulness, relaxation, paced breathing and elements of cognitive behavioural therapy, with reference to the very best that each of these therapies have to offer.

Relaxation and making the time for self-care are skills that women often have to learn. After years of looking after everyone else, filling every moment with completing a never-ending to do list for both home and work, peri-menopause is often a time when prioritising yourself moves from ‘nice to do’ to ‘need to do.’ Hypnotherapy sessions can help make this shift easier.

Clinical hypnotherapy has been shown to be effective in helping to ease many of the main symptoms of menopause, including hot flushes, brain fog, fatigue, and disrupted sleep.

hynosis for anxiety

About 3 out of 4 menopausal women struggle with hot flushes – or flashes as they are referred to in the States. Hypnosis is one of a range of effective mind-body techniques for managing hot flushes, with research finding hypnotherapy can help reduce their length, frequency, and severity. A significant reduction in the impact of these flushes on daily wellbeing has been reported too, as well as improvement in quality of sleep.

Hypnosis, alongside medical treatments, was found to help with improvement in insomnia in menopause too, by a systematic review of research. Other studies show relaxation, meditation, and guided visual imagery, can be of significant help with improving quality of sleep too, elements of which are included in a standard solution-focused hypnotherapy session.
